WIAW 2015 #06 Parent's Food Gifts
My parents came up at the weekend, and with them they bought loads of amazing goodies from their local food market. Everything from the market is local and stays fresh for so much longer...as well as being nice and cheap! My fridge is full of tasty healthy food, and meant I had a wealth of options to choose from for my meals. But I went back to my normal of banana and peanut butter on a bagel from Beigel Bakery in Brick Lane. I didn't take a photo as it looks like most of my other breakfasts...
At work, they bought a pack of Jaffa Cakes, which I obviously didn't say no to. This one looked a bit battered, but tasted delicious as always.
My lunch was some humous with cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, pitta and market juicy peppers.
Dinner was one of the best things I had made in a while. The day before, we roasted a butternut squash from my parents, and half leftover. I decided to make a 'risotto' from it, but realised I didn't have enough rice for two, therefore substituted for pearl barley. It is a cheaper option, but I really enjoyed the taste and texture of it. I flavoured it with stock as normal, as well as sage and a bit of cheese. Served with courgettes, beans and broccoli, I was so pleased to have leftovers for the next day.
An after dinner snack was two truffles from Marks and Spencers which is definietly my favourite daily treat. I had them for Christmas, and they are such a big pack, I am still getting through them!
